A psychologist trained in Greece, America and France, Toni Maha Evangelopoulos sought to understand the children said to be “distracted” at school yet perfectly focused one-to-one. In 1985, her daughter told her of “a French professor who works on the ear and human communication.” They wrote to Alfred Tomatis, who received them in Paris.

“I thought it was something magical. And I said: this, I want to learn, however long it takes me.”

From that meeting grew a lifelong relationship:

“It was not a professional relationship, but in the end a father-daughter relationship — from sound father to sound daughter.”
